From Event Planner to Web Designer

For more than 20 years, I’ve focused my career in the higher education and non-profit worlds, working as an event planner and campaign manager for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and later as director of Cultural Events & Special Academic Programs, then director of Events & Conferences, at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

In the midst of all the organizing and producing of fundraising events, conferences, ceremonies, programs and concerts, I always loved the times when I was able to sit down and focus on the marketing, promotion, aesthetic and design elements of each project or program.

That was the cherry on top for me.

Taking the Leap

In 2016, while still working in academia, I purchased my first Mac and decided to begin honing my graphic design and web skills. I dipped my toes into the design pool, taking on a few side projects. Then in 2018, I jumped into the world of entrepreneurship with my new business: Studio HB Events & Communication.

Since then, I have valued the new opportunities to work directly with clients to create beautiful and effective solutions for their design, communication and event needs through my business.

As a Squarespace Circle member, I’m happy to offer expanded web design as well as branding, graphic design and content services through my design division, Studio HB Creative.

What’s the old phrase? Life is a bowl of cherries, I believe.
